Discussion
List (Listserv)
Region X maintains an email discussion list for the purpose of promoting
regional programs such as conferences, sectional meetings and PDP
workshops. The list also provides users with a reliable method to
seek answers to questions from their fellow Region X members. The
address of the list is: www.region10.nafsa.org
To Subscribe:
If you are a member of NAFSA Region X and want to subscribe to the
list, please use the following instructions. In order to subscribe
to the list you must send a message to the server that maintains
the list (this is not the main address above). To sign on, please
send a message
to: lyris@list.brockport.edu
message: subscribe nafsax-l YOUR NAME
Example:
to: lyris@list.brockport.edu
message: subscribe nafsax-l Jane Smith
This message
needs to come from the email address that you want all future messages
sent to. If you utilize a "signature file" on the bottom
of your email communication, you will often need to disable it when
sending your subscription message, or else the extra text will confuse
the server.
Policies:
List members must adhere to the following:
1. In the subject
of your message, please provide an honest and accurate description
of your query or posting.
2. Postings
are restricted to NAFSA Region X business, or open discussion of
issues in international education.
3. No direct
advertising will be allowed by "for-profit" businesses.
Companies or individuals may apply to the Region's Marketing/Development
Representative for information on policies and cost of advertising
to the Regional membership via email or paper mailings.
4. Users who
violate the guidelines will be unsubscribed from the discussion
list at the discretion of the Region X Team.
Sending Messages:
To send a message, you will need to be subscribed to the list. Once
subscribed, all messages can be posted to the discussion address:
nafsax-l@list.brockport.edu
In the subject
of your message, please provide an honest and accurate description
of your query or posting. We request that users follow the guidelines
for etiquette outlined for INTER-L and SECUSS-L, the discussion
lists used nationally by members of NAFSA. Users who violate the
guidelines may be unsubscribed from the discussion list by the decision
of the Region X Team. All this is to say, use of this discussion
list for reasons other than Region X business or the open discussion
of issues in international education is strictly prohibited!
In order to
clarify your message for recipients of the list, it would be helpful
to identify which Knowledge Community your query or announcement
might pertain to. Examples might be:
Education
Abroad: Pre-departure Orientations?
International Student and Scholar Services:
J-1 Visa Regulations? Community Volunteers?
Recruitment, Admissions, and Preparation: Minimum
TOEFL Requirements?
Such designations
will help you reach your targeted audience more effectively and
allow non-interested parties to delete the message and speed up
their day
Replying
to Messages:
Messages sent to your account via nafsax-L are sent to you via the
server, not the individual posting the message. To this end, be
aware that by hitting the "reply" command on your email
system, your response will proceed to be submitted back to the whole
list. If you want to respond directly to the individual for purposes
other than answering their query (to request a summary of information,
compliment their grammar, etc...) please locate their address in
the heading of the message, and submit a new message to their account.
Unsubscribing
to the List:
If for any reason you should want to stop receiving messages (leaving
the Region, going on vacation, etc...) for any period of time, you
must send a blank message directly
to: lyrisl@list.brockport.edu
message: unsubscribe nafsax-l
Contact Information:
NAFSAX-L is hosted by both the Office of International Education
and Academic Computing Services at SUNY College at Brockport. If
you have followed the above guidelines and are still encountering
problems with the list, please contact:
